Since getting involved with the Labour Party about a year ago, I have moved on from delivering leaflets to going on the doorstep and now I’m a volunteer in the campaign office for the brilliant Sarah Sackman in Finchley and Golders Green.
Besides speaking to voters on the doorstep and getting to know my constituency, my favourite part of the campaign is our regular phone bank in Euston. Volunteers from all over London come together to call voters and introduce them to Sarah. There's usually a great feeling of companionship in the room and we regularly go for a drink afterwards.
I make sure everyone at the phone bank feels welcome. This can mean briefing new volunteers or simply making a cup of tea or coffee. If someone feels insecure, I talk them through a script with information on Sarah, her opponent and the constituency.
There's nothing quite like the election buzz -the motivation and excitement all of our volunteers share, no matter how old we are or where we come from. What unites us is the determination to get a brilliant candidate into Parliament.
My year in the Labour Party has helped me to gain confidence, develop leadership skills and understand how to communicate policies to voters from all walks of live. Whatever it is you are interested in, there's always a place for you in the Finchley and Golders Green campaign team.
