Protecting the rights of London's workers

Over the past few years London has benefited greatly from people coming to London
to live, work and study. It has added to London’s diversity.

However, recent European Court rulings may allow unscrupulous employers to undercut the rights and pay of London workers.

“In a recession, we need to make sure Londoners don’t lose out – that their rights are protected.” - Claude Moraes MEP

In a recession, we need to ensure that Londoners are able to compete fairly for jobs across the capital.

With Europe’s largest regeneration project taking shape at the Olympic site in Stratford (right), we need to help Londoners benefit from the new jobs it brings.

Claude Moraes MEP, Labour’s Spokesman on Employment & Social Affairs in the European Parliament has campaigned against European Court rulings which could undermine the rights of many London workers.

He has also campaigned to increase protections for London’s temporary agency workers.

Claude recently told a meeting of London trade unionists: “Free movement and migration has been part of the London success story. Labour MEPs must play their part to ensure a fair and prosperous labour market for all”.
