Osborne credibility shot to pieces by tax policy panic

George Osborne's National Insurance Contributions proposals would mean bigger tax rises and spending cuts which would hit families across London, TESSA JOWELL, Minister for London has warned.

Osborne’s credibility has been fatally damaged by proposals which have been dreamed up on a wing and a prayer. He won’t say where the spending cuts would come from to pay for his policy, which would put the economic recovery at risk.

Tessa Jowell said:

Londoners won’t be fooled by this Tory trick which would harm families and businesses.

“George Osborne is promising to spend billions of pounds but he has no way to pay for it, even under his own plans. It just doesn’t add up.

“The Tories would either have to increase other taxes or threaten Londoners' jobs by cutting frontline spending.

“Anyone who claims they can cut the deficit and give away tax cuts at the same time has lost any credible claim to be Chancellor. Even David Cameron has said the Tory plan 'is one of the oldest tricks in the book'.
