Better protection for Londoners on the move
Most Londoners welcome the opportunity to get on a cheap flight – and millions now benefit from new laws that make travelling around Europe much easier and cheaper.
These changes are a direct result of the work by Labour MEPs - sweeping away EU barriers to competition in air travel, paving the way for budget airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair. Flight prices have fallen 40% since 1992.
It was the European Parliament that insisted that ‘the price you see is the price you pay’, putting an end to 99p flights costing at least £75 with taxes and extras!
Peace of mind abroad
Other benefits for British citizens travelling in Europe include:
- Automatic cover for any emergency hospital treatment needed in another EU country.
- Cover if you travel with a tour operator – where a company must have proper arrangements in place to get you home should they go out of business while you are abroad.
- Compensation when your flights or train journeys are delayed or cancelled. The EU is extending this to coaches soon.
Disabled passengers are now looked after with civility and care at airports thanks to new laws – which London Labour MEP Robert Evans (pictured) helped steer through the European Parliament.
