Members of Hornsey and Wood Green Labour Party have today selected widely-respected campaigner Catherine West to be their candidate at the next General Election.
Catherine, who is council leader in the neighbouring London Borough of Islington said: “I’m proud to have been chosen to win back the trust of voters in Hornsey and Wood Green for Labour at the next General Election.
“People in Hornsey and Wood Green have been badly let down by a Liberal Democrat MP who backs the failing Conservative-led government.
“More than ever before, local people are telling me they need a strong voice to stand up for vital services like Whittington Hospital and to protect our local police teams to keep Hornsey and Wood Green safe.
“Times may be tough, but this out-of-touch government is making things worse by making the wrong choices like giving millionaires a huge tax bonus.
“My priorities are to listen to the people of Hornsey and Wood Green, help to create the jobs to get our young people back to work and build the homes we desperately need locally.
Matt Downie, Chair of Hornsey and Wood Green Labour Party said
"The countdown to the next general election started today in Hornsey & Wood Green.
“We have an exceptional candidate in Catherine West. She has a proven track record of tackling inequality, fighting for jobs and local services and leading the way on campaigns like a London living wage.”
