Joan is Labour's Candidate for Enfield North in the 2015 General Election.
Joan served three times as the Labour MP for Enfield North between 1997 and 2010.
During her time as an MP Joan also served as a Home Office Minister, where she led the Government's work tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and illegal immigration. She also served as the Prime Minister's Special Representative for Cyprus.
Since 2010 Joan has worked for a charity promoting peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka, served as Chair of the Riders for Health Charity which works to improve access to healthcare in Africa, and resumed her career as teacher.
She lives in Enfield with her husband Martin.
