London rough sleepers rise 43%

BBC LONDON are reporting: 'The number of people sleeping rough on London's streets has gone up by 43% in one year, a homeless charity has said. Broadway said 5,678 people slept on the streets between March 2011 and April, up from 3,975 the previous year. New rough sleepers also rose by 70%, to 3,285. Broadway said the figures were a "concern for everyone" while charity St Mungo's said the rise was "startling". Mayor Boris Johnson who had pledged to end rough sleeping by the end of 2012 said "we need to redouble our efforts".
