Government achievements against crime in London

• Recorded crime for six key offences in London has decreased by over 2% between 2003/04 and 2005/06       
• Since 2003/04 there has been a 9.6% reduction in volume crime in the 11 highest volume crime boroughs in London and an overall 6.3% reduction across all boroughs
• There are 4,786 more police officers in the London police force than in 1997To tackle and prevent crime in London
• Between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2005 courts reported to the Home Office that London Boroughs took out 532 Anti-Social Behaviour Orders
• Nearly £15m has been allocated through Safer and Stronger Communities Fund to support reduction in crime and drugs misuse across London, with a further £10m provided direct to the police to support crime reduction in partnership with regional partners
• Implementation of the Prolific and other Priority Offenders (PPO) Scheme across London is going well, with over 1,100 PPOs identified for the catch & bring to justice scheme and over 640 young people targeted for the ?prevent and deter.? The majority have been rearrested, 34% (380) are now serving a custodial sentence and 13% (145) are on remand in custody, thereby immediately reducing crime
• £360,000 was allocated in 2005/06 to tackle guns, knives and gang activity in London from the Recycled Criminal Assets Fund
• The Young People and Substance Misuse strategies in all London boroughs place drugs advice as part of integrated services for young people through the Every Child Matters Programme     
• The Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) has allocated over £23m to 21 high crime London boroughs in 2005/06 to help more drug using offenders engage in drug treatment and move away from crime. The Programme has transformed the way Health Trusts in London respond to offenders with drug problems; waiting times are down from several weeks to a few days in DIP boroughs
